Let’s Build a Bypass in Eureka – Save Lives Reduce Carbon Emissions

Sure its true that a freeway would physically divide Old Town from the rest of the city but then real cities have freeways.  A robust transportation system is required once a city reaches a certain size.

Just think about it.   A nice infrastructure program to create good jobs.  It would take out the blight of south Broadway and the 5th st corridor in one swoop, and would reduce the surplus of commercial property that is available in Eureka.

I don’t own a car, but I think it is worthy of debate.

For you environmentalists who think every road project is a win for the automobile and a defeat for the environment, I would point out that the Eureka Bottleneck is probably the worst five mile bottleneck on the West Coast.  It results in large losses of fuel efficiency due to signal stops and starts for autos and trucks as well as idle time within city limits.   All of this would be alleviated by enhancing the flow of traffic THROUGH the city.    Why spend money killing trees in Richardson Grove when you have a huge bottleneck in Eureka that can be solved in an urban context?  The freeway bypass will reduce carbon emissions.

There are alternative bypass routes to be considered as well.

have a peaceful day,
