HumRights To Host District Attorney Debate At HSU Campus
Arcata, Calif. – As part of an ongoing effort to boost the public understanding of the fundamental human rights protected under the United States Constitution, the Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights is teaming up with local media outlets to present the May 8, 2014 District Attorney Debate in the Goodwin Forum on the Humboldt State University campus, 1st Harpst Street, Arcata, CA 95521. Doors to the event will open at 6:30 p.m., with questions starting at 7 p.m.
With KHUM radio DJ Amy Berkowitz as moderator, a panel of local media representatives including the Lost Coast Outpost’s Hank Sims, the Times-Standard’s Will Houston, the North Coast Journal’s Thaddeus Greenson and the HSU Lumberjack’s Israel Lefrak will question candidates Arnie Klein, Elan Firpo, Maggie Flemming and Allan Dollison on Constitutional Rights issues such as the First and Fourth Amendment. Topics may include the Board of Supervisor’s anti-free speech and camping ordinance, issues of unlawful search and seizure and other relevant topics to our community. The event will be broadcast live on KHUM, 104.57 FM and 104.3 FM. This event is free and all community members are welcome.
“We are going to shake things up with this debate — asking questions that haven’t been asked before,” HumRights Executive Director Jeffrey Schwartz said. “We are focusing on important issues that we feel haven’t been addressed by other debates or forums.”
