“So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”
Sometimes it’s easier to quote others than to come up with something original all the time. I know with making songs, there are times I hit a block in the road and I have to figure out what am I going to do now lyrically, melodically, or instrumentally. Well, I chose the Dylan line above because it is getting to the end of the month and PARC [Peoples’ Action for Rights and Community] is in need of rent money again. And once again, another rent email is needing to go out.
Finding new ways of asking people for money is not easy and not necessarily something that one looks forward to in writing these emails. On the other hand, I think it is very refreshing to ask for money to keep this wonderful organization open. It’s very ‘old school’ to say the least. Thankfully there are those who are friends and supporters who have and continue to donate money to keep PARC’s door open. In addition, people donate reading materials, blankets, socks, clothing, food, tents, toilet paper, dog food, copiers, and other vital things as resources for survival and organizing. To be truthful, PARC needs more money donations to continue existing. This June 2014, PARC will have been at its current location near the Samoa Bridge(s) for five years. Pretty impressive for a place to stay operating supported solely by all of you. Most of the time, every month, we send these emails out and scramble to get it all together before (or after) rent and bills are due. It would be amazing if there were enough steady donors to save us from a few gray hairs and utility “shut off” phone calls.
I want to make sure everyone knows that we have lots of yams and potatoes and cabbage to give away right now. We plan to have a community produce give-away at PARC every Saturday starting about 2pm (more details later).
As a volunteer at PARC, I can say, I am blessed to see this place here for the people. Thank you to everyone. Sarah Torres
PARC bills: rent is $750; gas/electricity about $60- $70; two phone bills for $25 and $55 a month.
